Often called the spiritual capital of Maharashtra, Pandharpur is situated on the banks of the Chandrabhagha river in Solapur district. Legend has it that Pundalik a great devotee of Lord Krishna when honored by his visit prayed for his eternal presence. Therefore the temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple complex is very old and was fIrst renovated in 83 A.D. A fascinating aspect of the temple is that the god is claimed to be Vishnu by the Vaishnavites, Neminath by the Jains, and A valokiteswara by the Buddhists. The tradition of royal worshIp and the 'rathayatra' started in 1810 is still carried opt on 'Ashad and Kartik' Ekdashi days.
